Selon l\u2019Edit de tol\u00e9rance de Joseph II, du 12 novembre 1781, toute communaut\u00e9 protestante \u00e9tant suffisamment importante peut disposer d\u2019une \u00e9glise et d\u2019une \u00e9cole. Ainsi, dans ce contexte, en 1788, les protestants dourois, et notamment le protestant Jean-Baptiste Rouls, se consid\u00e9rant assez nombreux, d\u00e9cid\u00e8rent d\u2019entamer les d\u00e9marches n\u00e9cessaires aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019Empereur. Cependant, ces derni\u00e8res furent longues et en 1792, l\u2019Edit de tol\u00e9rance fut r\u00e9voqu\u00e9. N\u00e9anmoins, en 1794, avec la conqu\u00eate fran\u00e7aise, la situation va conna\u00eetre une \u00e9volution. En effet, en 1795, Jean-Baptiste Defrise d\u00e9cide de construire \u00e0 ses frais le premier oratoire protestant appel\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0le temple de la croisette\u00a0\u00bb, du nom du lieu o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait situ\u00e9. Ce b\u00e2timent, d\u00e9saffect\u00e9 le 30 septembre 1827, fut d\u00e9moli au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Dans ce contexte, il est int\u00e9ressant d\u2019indiquer que le premier pasteur des protestants dourois au sein de ce premier temps fut Jean de Vism\u00e9.<\/p>
En 1825, les Protestants de Dour demande des subsides \u00e0 Guillaume 1^{er<\/sup> afin de faire b\u00e2tir un nouveau temple. Ainsi, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019appui financier de ce dernier et \u00e0 de nombreuses donations, la communaut\u00e9 protestante entra dans son nouveau lieu de culte le 30 septembre 1827. Ce dernier, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 la rue du Roi Albert \u00e0 Dour, est un b\u00e2timent class\u00e9 au Patrimoine Culturel depuis 1977. Dans ce contexte, il est int\u00e9ressant de noter qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, Jean de Vism\u00e9 fut aussi le pasteur de ce nouveau temple. Par la suite, il est remplac\u00e9 par son fils, Jonathan de Vism\u00e9. En ce qui concerne le temple protestant actuel, il est \u00e0 noter qu\u2019il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l\u2019Eglise-M\u00e8re du Borinage. En effet, c\u2019est \u00e0 partir de Dour, que la plupart des \u00e9glises protestantes de Mons-Borinage virent le jour. Du point de vue de son architecture, il s\u2019agit d\u2019un \u00e9difice de style n\u00e9o-classique avec un int\u00e9rieur d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 propice \u00e0 la m\u00e9ditation. Deux colonnes internes et externes sont \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sentes et \u00e9voquent la fa\u00e7ade du temple de Salomon. Dans ce contexte, il est int\u00e9ressant d\u2019indiquer que, pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre, le temple fut d\u00e9moli en partie avant d\u2019\u00eatre remis en \u00e9tat.<\/p>}
