La population de Dour \u00e9tait constitu\u00e9e d\u2019une grande majorit\u00e9 de Protestants. Il va de soi qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque ces derniers ne pouvaient pas \u00eatre inhum\u00e9s dans le cimeti\u00e8re catholique. Dans ce contexte, les Protestants avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 trouv\u00e9 une solution \u00e0 ce probl\u00e8me. En effet, ils utilisaient une p\u00e2ture situ\u00e9e \u00e0 la rue Croisette et mise \u00e0 leur disposition par Mathieu Defrise. Cependant, ce terrain devint trop petit si bien qu\u2019au cours de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 1829, le conseil de r\u00e9gence examina une requ\u00eate du Consistoire de l\u2019Eglise protestante ayant \u00e0 sa t\u00eate, Jonathan de Vism\u00e9, qui d\u00e9sirait disposer d\u2019un lieu de s\u00e9pultures r\u00e9serv\u00e9 aux Protestants. Les autorit\u00e9s locales furent favorables \u00e0 ce projet. Ainsi, il fut d\u00e9cid\u00e9 que le cimeti\u00e8re catholique, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 la ruelle Croisette, s\u2019\u00e9tendant sur un grand nombre d\u2019hectares serait divis\u00e9 en deux.<\/p>
