Ce quartier est nomm\u00e9 comme place commune d\u00e8s 1310.<\/p>
On retrouvait dans ce quartier, d\u2019une part, des \u00e9coles, un couvent, une chapelle, et d\u2019autre part, un moulin qui \u00e9tait la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019Emile de Royer. Il y avait aussi un abreuvoir (\u00e9tang) aliment\u00e9 par une fontaine.<\/p>
Par la suite, devenant propri\u00e9t\u00e9 communale, Trich\u00e8res devint place d\u2019armes. Pendant la R\u00e9volution braban\u00e7onne, les sujets de la seigneurie de Saint-Ghislain s\u2019y exer\u00e7aient au maniement des armes afin d\u2019\u00eatre pr\u00e9par\u00e9s. Avant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, il devint, chaque dimanche, le lieu de rendez-vous de la garde civique. Pour en arriver l\u00e0, il fallut transformer un champ humide en place digne de ce nom.<\/p>
Apr\u00e8s trois ann\u00e9es de tergiversations, l\u2019abreuvoir (\u00e9tang) consid\u00e9rait comme insalubre fut supprim\u00e9. Ainsi, la d\u00e9cision finale fut prise par le Conseil communal du 30 septembre 1871 et approuv\u00e9 par la D\u00e9putation permanente, le 21 octobre 1871.<\/p>
Il comprend \u00e9galement la Place Verte sur laquelle se d\u00e9roule un grand nombre de festivit\u00e9s et notamment des f\u00eates scolaires de l\u2019\u00e9cole du Centre. Actuellement, un march\u00e9 prend toujours place sur celle-ci tous les lundis.<\/p>
