Historique et \u00e9volution :<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
Cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1870, la sucrerie des Fr\u00e8res Jouveneau fut construite le long de la route de Dour \u00e0 Bavay pr\u00e8s du croisement avec le Rieu-Saussez \u00e0 Elouges. Ainsi, la fabrique de sucre comprenait sept machines \u00e0 vapeur, quatre chaudi\u00e8res, huit presses hydrauliques et un gazom\u00e8tre. Toutefois, il est int\u00e9ressant d\u2019indiquer que cette entreprise connut des tensions avec les autorit\u00e9s communales en raison des eaux sales qu\u2019elle d\u00e9versait dans le Rieu-Saussez.<\/p>
En 1877, cette industrie est prosp\u00e8re. Toutefois, en 1881, Omer Augustin Joseph Jouveneau revend ses parts et laisse la direction \u00e0 son fr\u00e8re Edouard Omer Ildephone Joseph Jouveneau. Ainsi, ce dernier poss\u00e8de les deux tiers de l\u2019entreprise tandis que le dernier tiers est entre les mains d\u2019un agronome de Wih\u00e9ries, L\u00e9on Chevalier-Lambry. En 1887 et 1891, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est agrandie. En 1894, la direction de la sucrerie demande l\u2019autorisation aux autorit\u00e9s communales d\u2019\u00e9tablir deux chaudi\u00e8res \u00e0 vapeur. Le conseil communal la d\u00e9nomme alors la sucrerie du Pr\u00e9feuillet \u00ab\u00a0Jouveneau et Chevalier\u00a0\u00bb. Pourtant, en 1890, un nouveau directeur est arriv\u00e9, Victor Brenez. La fabrique va alors devenir plus importante et en 1894, elle obtient la permission d\u2019\u00e9tablir une prise d\u2019eau, barrage mobile dans le ruisseau Rieu-Saussez. Elle porte alors le nom de \u00ab\u00a0Fabrique de sucre de Dour\u00a0\u00bb alors qu\u2019elle est situ\u00e9e sur le territoire de la localit\u00e9 d\u2019Elouges.<\/p>
En 1904, elle signe un nouveau contrat si bien qu\u2019elle devient Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Anonyme de la fabrique de sucre et Engrais Chimiques. En 1908, elle est mise en vente. En 1910, elle est achet\u00e9e. Ainsi, une partie est d\u00e9molie et le reste est transform\u00e9 en un b\u00e2timent rural.<\/p>
