Historique et \u00e9volution :<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
Situ\u00e9e \u00e0 la Place du Jeu de Balle \u00e0 Wih\u00e9ries, la construction de la maison du peuple de Wih\u00e9ries commence avant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale. Ainsi, elle est construite \u00e0 l\u2019initiative de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative \u00ab\u00a0la Ruche boraine\u00a0\u00bb par Maurice Mailleux, architecte de la maison du peuple de Boussu. Toutefois, la guerre ayant interrompu les travaux, elle n\u2019est inaugur\u00e9e qu\u2019en 1922.<\/p>
D\u2019un point de vue architectural, le b\u00e2timent frappe par son ampleur ainsi que par sa polychromie. Dans un style Art nouveau, l\u2019\u00e9difice se d\u00e9ploie sur deux niveaux et sur neuf trav\u00e9es. On y retrouve aussi un corps central de trois trav\u00e9es. Dans ce contexte, dans la trav\u00e9e centrale, on retrouve un lien avec l\u2019apiculture et donc la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative. En effet, une ruche y est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e, encadr\u00e9e de volutes et surmont\u00e9e des mots \u00ab\u00a0Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative\u00a0\u00bb. Sous les abeilles, on peut \u00e9galement lire l\u2019inscription \u00ab\u00a0La Ruche boraine \/ Maison du peuple\u00a0\u00bb. De surcro\u00eet, des motifs floraux et v\u00e9g\u00e9taux sont visibles au-dessus des portes et des fen\u00eatres du rez-de-chauss\u00e9e.<\/p>
Dans la maison du peuple, on pouvait observer une salle de r\u00e9union, une salle des f\u00eates, un caf\u00e9, une salle de d\u00e9bit de pains, une boulangerie ainsi qu\u2019une cuisine.<\/p>
Actuellement, la maison du peuple de Wih\u00e9ries a conserv\u00e9 son affectation d\u2019origine. Ainsi, appartenant toujours \u00e0 la m\u00eame soci\u00e9t\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative, l\u2019organisation spatiale est rest\u00e9e inchang\u00e9e, \u00e0 l\u2019exception du caf\u00e9 qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 agrandi et une partie du b\u00e2timent qui est lou\u00e9 \u00e0 une librairie..<\/p>
Le b\u00e2timent a \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9 le 29 septembre 1982.<\/p>
